Excavation at the A420 Bypass 1978

Excavations on the land cleared for the new A420 bypass that was opened in 1979. Millions of belemnites were seen in the clay. Belemnites were marine animals – cephalopods that lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Their closest living relatives are squid and cuttlefish.
