To celebrate the coronation of King George V on 2nd June1911 an ox was roasted in the Market Place. Left to right (carvers & cooks): Supt. Maunders; Bob Hughes; Doe Parker, the vet; Bert Pullen; Mr Haynes; Edward Heavens; George Heavens; Tommy (Tinker) Anns.
Two of the cooks wore long white coats, one can be seen leaning over in the smoke in the photo below (far left). And the band played on. Not one person to be seen without a hat!
