On Saturday 6th May 2023 the town council organised a ‘Music in the Market Place’ event to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. Charles became King of the United Kingdom upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II last year. The Queen’s 70-year reign ended on the 8th September 2022 at the age of 96.
The local pubs and many of the shops also contributed in various ways to the celebrations. Among the events were maypole dancing, family ceilidh, Faringdon Community Choir, and there was music provided by Brass Follies and Boogie Me.
